Andrea Aste is a multimedia visionary artist and animator, published author and illustrator. Chris Butler - Journeys through the landscape of Tarot


A master of deck design, Chris Butler first encountered the Tarot at the age of thirteen through watching a James Bond movie. His fascination for the cards has stayed with him for over forty years. His first deck was the Quantum Tarot, illustrated for author Kay Stopforth (Kunati Books 2008). Lo Scarabeo published a new version of this deck, Quantum Tarot 2.0 in 2010. They are also the publishers of Chris’s Healing Light Tarot and Healing Light Lenormand. For Schiffer Books, Chris has authored/illustrated The Son Tarot: Mysticism, Meditation and Divination for Gay Men, published in 2012 and Lenormand Cartomancy deck and book set , published December 2013. Chris loves to read the cards but he’s equally passionate about empowering others to read for themselves. My journey to becoming a tarot reader has been a circuitous one, winding through many different pursuits until I finally tuned in to what truly brought me joy, namely my tarot practice. I am fascinated by so many different metaphysical systems, all of which have deepened and enriched my relationship with the Tarot. I believe that my practice should be inclusive and expansive, taking the diverse members of our community into account when I put together posts and choose the decks I will be working with. I am a huge proponent of supporting indie deck creators and artists, as Tarot functions as art appreciation for me. I feel strongly that the artists who pour so much love and care into these creations are deserving of our support as practitioners. I love the archetypes that make up the Tarot and the ways in which they can be used to unpack and make sense of our daily lived experience. There are 78 cards in the deck, and each one can be used as a lens to view and make sense of our current situation, feeling, or headspace. That being said, I often find it uncanny how the perfect card arrives at the perfect time when I am reading for myself or for others. I am so grateful for the richness of the tarot community, through books, interviews, podcasts, and the medium of Patreon I have been privileged to learn so much from others within the tarot and metaphysical community. I feel incredibly grateful to have been able to interview many deck creators and practitioners, it has been an absolute privilege to hear them speak about their creative process and approach to both tarot and oracle deck creation. When I am not working with my cards or researching aspects of tarot and astrology, I can be found homeschooling my three kids, spending quality time with my partner, spending as much time as I can out of doors, curling up with my nose in a book and/or snuggling with my fur babies.
