SKAT - Card Connections

Hello again, it is me Andreas & today I would like to tell you something more about Skatkarten.

You definitely all know that there are the Hearts, Diamonds, Spades and Clubs.

This is our image we have when we think of Skatkarten. And that is okay, it is right and this is the best image you can choose if you want to do fortune telling with these cards. These are the symbols that made it best through time in my country and maybe all over the world, I would say.

But they did not always rule the world - and some countries stayed traditionally with their symbols. And this colours the world of playing cards - and I love it.

Here in Germany - to make a step back in time, besides the Schafkopfkarten (it is a card game with special cards) the Skatkarten were decorated with other symbols. We had Herz what is like the Hearts, the Blatt - this is the german version of the Spades and then there is Eichel (Club) and Schellen( Diamonds) and there were no Ladies in the cards, the "court cards" where represented by three men, but these Symbols got nearly lost and pushed away by the picture we are used to now

You can still buy cards like this, but they are not very common anymore. These old symbols are still alive, but used for the game called Schafkopf.

Interesting & amazing is that the cards have a kind of connection with each other! Beginning with Tarot and the symbols of Wands, Coins/Pentacles, Swords which represents also the italo-spanish suits which you can see here on the picture with the italian Scopa-cards - and this is corresponding to the well-known european, especially french suit. But this is not the only connection between them, they belong to one family and almost the same roots. And that is also shown by reading the future in the cards. Some meanings will match and others will be different.... I am going to tell You more.

Have a great week & upcoming weekend!

Take care Andreas ♥♦♣♠
